LOGO DESIGN FOR KENDALL-JACKSON WINERY
Kendall-Jackson Winery in Sonoma County, California was in need of a logo to represent a special upcoming event. The most influential food bloggers from around the world have been invited to the winery for a sampling of fine foods and an array of Kendall-Jackson wines. The hope is that the bloggers will give the winery exposure through their vast readership. The goal: a simple, upscale, modern logo to represent the event in a dignified yet fun way.
BRANDING FOR CONSCIOUS CUP COFFEE ROASTERS
Conscious Cup is a family business. When they first got started, they did all the design and marketing themselves. And while it had served their purposes well as they were getting the shop going, they had grown the business and were gearing up for a move to a brand new, larger location, and planning a brand new food menu that would expand their clientele. They wanted to grow aesthetically, too, and create a new, more polished visual identity for the café that would help set it apart.

Logos
The original Conscious Cup logo included a sun and a moon. While the family wanted a brand new logo, they wanted to maintain at least a semblance of a sun. It is an important symbol for their business, as it represents an enlightened way of doing business: selling socially and environmentally sustainable coffees and foods that are all natural and straight from the earth. Plus, the sun evokes a general sense of happiness and well-being. After a few versions of the logo, it became apparent that it was was going to be built around the sunburst; this also turned out to be the symbol that would pervade the entire brand. It’s a visually stimulating pattern and gives a sense of radiating energy, which grabs the customer’s attention.
Coffee Bag
We went through several full-color custom bag designs before deciding on this simpler, cheaper alternative. Custom bags turned out to be too expensive for the company at the present time, so I suggested they continue to use their current paper bags, but apply the new logo with a stamp and print labels for each of their coffees in house to cut costs. They turned out great. Not only does this method save money, but gives the bag a unique, organic look that you won’t find in any other coffee shop in the area. It really sets them apart from their competition.
